The playbook

How to re-book at the chair, without it feeling like a pitch.

Most clients love their experience — they don’t skip weeks because they want to, they skip them because life gets busy and nobody set the next date. Booking the next visit before they leave the chair saves you both the back-and-forth texts, and it’s a professional recommendation, not a sales move. Here’s the ask, and the frequency to recommend for each hair situation.

The ask — while they’re still in the chair

“I’d love to get your next appointment on the calendar before you head out — it saves us both the texting back and forth, and it means you’ll always get the day and time you want.”

Then make it a recommendation, not a question mark: “For your hair, I’d want to see you in about six weeks — that keeps this shape exactly where we want it. Does the same day and time work?”

If they hesitate, keep the door open: “No pressure — I can pencil it in and we’ll confirm the week before.” A penciled date beats no date every time.

You’re the professional. Clients follow the frequency you recommend — the guide on the right gives you the words and the number for each situation.

Short hair

every 4–6 wks

Short cuts lose their line fast — the sharp shape and clean edges are the whole point.

Say this

“Short cuts show growth first. Four to six weeks keeps the shape sharp and the edges clean.”

Medium hair

every 6–8 wks

Regular trims maintain the cut and stop split ends before they start.

Say this

“Six to eight weeks keeps this cut looking intentional and heads off split ends.”

Bleached, chemically treated, or heat-damaged

every 4–6 wks

Compromised hair needs more frequent trims to stop breakage from traveling up the hair shaft.

Say this

“With color-treated hair we trim a little more often — every four to six weeks — so any breakage stops at the ends instead of traveling up the strand.”

Growing it out

every 10–12+ wks

Growing out means longer gaps — recommend them honestly and re-book anyway. A client on the books at 12 weeks still beats one drifting to 16.

Say this

“Since we’re growing it out, let’s go ten to twelve weeks — I’ll book it now so we keep the ends healthy while it grows.”
